H. Okuyama et al., SELECTIVE INACTIVATION OF ELONGATION FACTOR-2 (EF-2) IN FREE ADIPOCYTES OBTAINED BY TREATING SARCOPHAGA LARVAL FAT-BODIES WITH CHYMOTRYPSIN, Insect biochemistry and molecular biology, 28(5-6), 1998, pp. 301-307
The molecular mechanism(s) involved in the selective cessation of prot
ein synthesis in free adipocytes obtained by treating fat bodies of Sa
rcophaga larvae with chymotrypsin were investigated (Okuyama, H., Kura
ta, S., Natori, S., 1994. Insect Biochem Mol. Biol. 24, 525-530). Ribo
somes prepared from these adipocytes were normal. but the activity of
soluble factor(s) needed for protein synthesis was greatly reduced com
pared with the control fat bodies. From experiments using diphtheria t
oxin, we concluded that EF-2, but not other factors: was selectively i
nactivated in these free adipocytes. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. Al
