An organopalladium complex promoted Diels-Alder reaction between 1-phe
nyl-3,4-dimethyIphosphole and 1-vinylimidazole gave a novel imidazole-
substituted phosphanorbornene bidentate ligand which co-ordinated to t
he palladium template via the C-2 carbon atom of the imidazole group a
nd the bridgehead phosphorus donor atom.
