The effect of polymorphous phase transformations on the structure of s
tress waves and the fracture of steel spheres under compression by sph
erically converging shock waves has been studied within the model of a
porous elastoplastic medium whose matrix: undergoes polymorphous tran
sformations under deformation. Computation results are compared with e
xperimental data available in the literature.
