Abstract
The Gelasian has been formally accepted as third (and uppermost) subdi vision of the Pliocene Series, thus representing the Upper Pliocene. T he Global Standard Stratotype-section and Point for the Gelasian is lo cated in the Monte S. Nicola section (near Gela, Sicily: Italy).
