Abstract
A thermodynamic analysis of the Anderson-Gruneisen parameter is found to yield useful relations for estimating the temperature dependence of interatomic separation r(T) and the bulk modulus BT(T). In this paper , the relations for r(T) and B-T(T) are developed using the approximat ion that the Anderson-Gruneisen parameter delta(T) is independent of t emperature (T) which is greater than the Debye temperature (theta(D)). These relations can be used to predict r(T) and B-T(T) up to the melt ing temperature of eight alkali halide solids. The results are compare d with the available experimental data and are discussed in view of re cent research in the field of high temperature physics. (C) 1998 Elsev ier Science Ltd.
