Os(eta(5)-C5H5)Cl((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2) (2) reacts with thallium acetate in
CH2Cl2 to give Os(eta(5)-C5H5){kappa(1)-OC(O)CH3}((PPr3)-Pr-i)(2) (3).
Reaction of the latter with 1,1-diphenyl-2-propyn-1-ol affords the pi
-alkyne derivative Os(eta(5)-C5H5){kappa(1)-OC(O)CH3}{eta(2)-HC drop C
C(OH)Ph-2}(P-i- Pr-3) (4). In solution, complex 4 is unstable above -4
0 degrees C and rapidly changes into the -{(Z)-3-acetoxy-1-hydroxy-1-p
henyl-2-propenyl}aryl complex Os(eta(5)-C5H5){C6H4[C(OH)(Ph)CH drop CH
OC(C(O)CH3]}((PPr3)-Pr-i) (5) whose structure was determined by X-ray
diffraction. analysis.
