SYNTHESIS OF SOME NEW CHROMONES AND PYRIMIDINONES CONTAINING 2-PHENYL-1,2,3-TRIAZOLE

The preparation of five new 2-heterocyclic-substituted chromones and o f ten new related pyrimidinones is reported. Condensation of 2-hydroxy -acetophenones I a- I e with 8-phenyl-1,2, 3-triazole-4-carboxylic aci d followed by Baker-Venkataraman rearrangement led to 1,3-diketones II I a- III e, which yielded chromones IV a-IV e on dehydration and pyrim idinones V a- V e on condensation with urea and thiourea respectively. Their structures were confirmed on the basis of elemental analysis, I R, H-1 NMR and MS spectral data.
