Abstract
The PTB's new comparator for diameter and form was investigated and op timized with the aim of reducing step by step the uncertainty of outer diameter measurements to U = 10 nm per 100 mm measuring length. This paper presents the measurement procedure, an error analysis and result s of outer diameter measurements on a cylindrical standard of a pressu re balance.
