Abstract
Our purpose was to evaluate the amount of blood loss in patients who u nderwent loop excision of the transformation zone by infiltrating the ectrocervix with a 1:30 POR8-lignocaine 1% 30-ml solution. Ninety wome n undergoing loop excision of the transformation zone for cervical int raepithelial neoplasia were randomly allocated to one of three groups: A, POR8-lignocaine group; B, lignocaine group; and C, epinephrine-lig nocaine group). A standard protocol, which included operative techniqu e, estimation of blood loss, operative time, pain, and morbidity, was used. Statistical analysis was performed using Student's t test, chi-s quare, and the Fisher exact test. The use of 1:30 POR8 lignocaine 1% 3 0-ml solution resulted in less intraoperative blood loss (2.9 +/- 1.2 vs. 6.4 +/- 1.8 vs. 4.1 +/- 1.2, p < 0.001). The operative time was 3. 4 +/- 1.22 min in the POR8 group vs. 5.63 +/- 1.15 in group B and 4.23 +/- 1 in group C. The dimensions of the excised specimens were simila r. As for the pain experienced, no statistical difference was found in the three groups. No electrocardiographic anomaly was recorded. Blood pressure was moderately elevated in the POR8 group. Infiltration of t he ectocervix with 30 ml 1:30 POR8-lignocaine 1% reduced the amount of blood loss during loop excision of the transformation zone.
