The efficiency of different advanced oxidation processes for degradati
on of two phenols, 2,4-dimethylphenol (2,4-DMP) and 24-dichlorophenol
(2,4-DCP), has been under study. Advanced oxidation processes, especia
lly the Fe2+/H2O2/ultraviolet (UV) system, were found to be effective
in decomposing phenols and chlorophenols. The degradation rate for 2,4
-DCP followed the order, H2O2/Fe2+/UV > H2O2/Fe2+ > O-3/ ultrasound (U
S) > O-3 greater than or equal to O-3/UV > UV/H2O2 greater than or equ
al to US > UV. The corresponding order for 2,4-DMP was H2O2/ Fe2+/UV >
O-3/US > O-3 greater than or equal to O-3/UV > H2O2/Fe2+ > US greater
than or equal to UV/H2O2 > UV.
