CRYSTAL-CHEMISTRY OF PROTONATED 1,2-BIS(DI-R-AMINOMETHYL)BENZENES - PART II - 1,2-BIS(DIMETHYLAMINOMETHYL)BENZENE NITRATE

The crystals of a 1:1 complex of 1,2-bis(dimethylaminomethyl)benzene w ith HNO3 were studied using X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. The space group is Pbca with a = 12.918(2), b = 13.741(3), c = 15.879( 3) Angstrom and Z=8, The NHN+ intramolecular hydrogen bond is crystall o,graphically asymmetric. The N...N distance is 2.774(2)Angstrom and t he N-H...N angle is 166(2)degrees, The IR spectrum of the crystals sho ws a broad intense band indicating very low proton polarizability in t he intramolecular hydrogen bond.
