G. Poilasne et al., INFLUENCE OF METALLIC PHOTONIC BANDGAP (MPBG) MATERIALS INTERFACE ON DIPOLE RADIATION CHARACTERISTICS, Microwave and optical technology letters, 18(6), 1998, pp. 407-410
The MPBG interface influence on half-wavelength dipole radiation chara
cteristics-radiation pattern and input impedance-is analyzed. This stu
dy concerns frequency operation within ol without an MPBG bandgap. A f
irst analysis has been performed by replacing a wire of a 2-D square l
attice MPBG by a dipole. Then, the study of dipole-MPBG distance is pr
esented for different MPBG structures, and is compared to simple and g
ridded corner reflector characteristics. This demonstrates that the in
put impedance value can be controlled, and depends on the MPBG structu
re dimensions and on the dipole position within this structure. It sho
ws that some improvement of angular filter specifications can be obtai
ned when the MPBG interface is no longer a plane. (C) 1998 John Wiley
