Abstract
The problem of a point moving inside a rotating ellipse is considered; collisions at the boundary are assumed to be absolutely elastic. It i s shown that this discrete dynamical system does not admit of an analy tic integral independent of the energy integral. The proof of non-inte grability is based on the method of separatrix splitting. (C) 1998 Els evier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
