Abstract
Many kinds of method for measurement of straightness of motions and fo rms have been discussed and developed. In recent years, methods adopti ng the concept called ''software datum'' instead of using a reference body have been received attentions for long range measurements. On the other hand, this paper presents a method based on a short range refer ence and the data processing by means of overlap-coupling. Long range measurements thus should become possible. This method is aimed to carr y out precise measurements with a simple device without complicated da ta processing. Its principle and accuracy are discussed in detail, and some results of experiment are also presented.
