Ab. Alchagirov et Am. Chochaeva, THE METHOD OF A LARGE (LYING) DROP - EFFECT OF A NONHORIZONTAL SUBSTRATE ON THE ACCURACY OF SURFACE-TENSION MEASUREMENTS, Instruments and experimental techniques, 41(3), 1998, pp. 416-418
The study considers the effect of small deviations from horizontality
of the substrate plane, on which a liquid-metal drop is formed, by the
accuracy of determining the surface tension by the method of a large
(lying) drop. It is shown that, at angles of deviation exceeding 45',
the errors in determining the surface tension exceed the experimental
error for this technique (0.5%). This effect is caused by the violatio
n of the main requirement of the technique of a large (lying) drop-axi
al symmetry of the drop shape.
