The Ashcroft empty core model potential is used to derive the effectiv
e interatomic potential, V-eff(r), and the pair correlation function,
g(r), of metallic glasses through the pseudopotential approach. The on
ly parameter r(c) (core radius) is chosen to make the calculated g(r)
as close as possible with available experimental data. V-eff(r) alongw
ith g(r) of the glass is used to evaluate longitudinal and transverse
phonon frequencies by the use of the Takeno and Goda equations. The fo
rmulation reproduces the main characteristics of the dispersion curves
obtained by computer simulation techniques.
