Abstract
A pulsed Brillouin fibre ring laser has been developed and we describe its main features. The pump and the Brillouin laser are shown to form an excellent dual frequency source for distributed sensing. A first a pplication for fire detection is demonstrated. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scien ce B.V.
