Abstract
Unclad multimode optical fiber tips are often the basis for diffusing tips in photodynamic therapy or scalpels in laser surgery. In this stu dy, we report an approximated Gaussian-beam model for the calculation of the light distribution along the surface of unclad fiber tips. The results are compared with detailed experimental measurements. The mode l yields quite good qualitative agreement with experimental results. ( C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
