Mm. Omodei et al., USING A HEAD-MOUNTED VIDEO CAMERA AND 2-STAGE REPLAY TO ENHANCE ORIENTEERING PERFORMANCE, International journal of sport psychology, 29(2), 1998, pp. 115-131
In a study involving six junior orienteers, use of head-mounted video
camera footage in a two-stage replay procedure during the early part o
f a competition season was associated with a substantial overall impro
vement in performance at the Australian Orienteering Championships. Th
e wearing of a head-mounted video camera while competing generated a v
ideo record of events from the orienteer's own visual perspective. Rep
laying this own-point-of-view record las a first stage) was a powerful
stimulus to recall and verbalise important performance-related mental
events. A second-stage involving replay of the original video togethe
r with verbalised erred recollections enabled coach and orienteer to a
ddress specific individualised mental aspects of competing. The proced
ure has applications in a range of sports.
