Abstract
The chemical shift of the X-ray K-absorption edge of cobalt in the sys tems COSO4.2H(2)O, CoCl2.6H(2)O, CO2O3, CO3O4, CoO, COS, and (NH4)(2)S O4.COSO4.6H(2)O is studied using a 40 cm Cauchois type bent crystal sp ectrograph of transmission type. On the basis of least-square regressi on analysis a cubic relationship between the X-ray chemical shift and the partial charge on the absorbing ion is suggested. The relation is utilized for estimating the partial charge on the Co ion in the system (NH4)(2)SO4.COSO4.6H(2)O.
