Abstract
The electrical conductivity of NaBr solutions and the emf of the cell: glass electrode (Na)\NaBr\AgBr\Ag in mixtures of water with propan-2- ol in the range 0-80 wt.% have been measured at 298.15 K. The values o f limiting molar conductance (Lambda(0),), association constants (K-A) , and the parameter of distance of ions (R) were obtained with the Fuo ss-Justice equation. From the conductivity data obtained, the values o f the Walden products (Lambda(0)eta) were also calculated. The values of the Gibbs energy of transfer (Delta(t)G(o)) of NaBr from the water to the mixtures of water with propan-2-ol mixtures were obtained from the emf data. The dependencies of viscosity (eta), limiting molar cond uctance (Lambda(0)), Walden products (Lambda(0)eta), association const ants (K-A) and the Gibbs energy of transfer (Delta(t)G(o)) of NaBr ver sus the mixed solvent composition have been discussed. The obtained re sults were compared with those obtained earlier for sodium chloride an d iodide. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
