Abstract
Multiparticle Electroproduction Modular Upgradable Spectrometer (MEMUS ) is a large acceptance detector intended to run on the ELFE machine a t a luminosity of 10(36) cm(-2) s(-1) per nucleon with a hydrogen targ et. The detector is designed to study reactions with multiparticle fin al states. We present a brief description of the overall detector desi gn and of the ongoing research program on the determination of the ade quate characteristics of the different detector components.
