The stability of wave disturbances in a Blasius boundary layer are stu
died experimentally and it is shown that under well controlled conditi
ons the waves are only slightly modified compared to parallel flow the
ory. This is in contrast to previous experiments and it is shown that
inappropriate leading edge conditions may have affected earlier studie
s as these conditions have a strong influence on the stability charact
eristics of Tollmien-Schlichting waves.
