P. Huchon et al., PERVASIVE DEXTRAL STRIKE-SLIP FAULTING WITHIN THE BACKSTOP OF THE EASTERN NANKAI WEDGE CONFIRMED BY DEEP-TOWED SEISMIC DATA (KAIKO-TOKAI96 CRUISE), Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie 2. Sciences de la terre et des planetes, 326(12), 1998, pp. 869-875
New deep-rowed (PASISAR) seismic data of the KAIKO-TOKAI'96 cruise (R/
V L'Atalante), combined with SAR side-scan sonar, multibeam bathymetri
c data and previously available data, confirm that the backstop of the
eastern Nankai wedge, close to the Izu collision zone, is affected by
pervasive right-lateral strike-slip faulting. We interpret this tecto
nic pattern as the result of the combination of shear partitioning due
to oblique subduction with the effect of the Izu collision. (C) Acade
