Abstract
The matrix element of the K --> pipi decay due to the penguin operator is calculated within the QCD sum rules framework. The effective DELTA S = 1 Hamiltonian is represented in terms of chiral effective theory v ariables and corresponding coefficients of proportionality between qua rk-gluon operators and mesonic operators are estimated. Our results ar e in a reasonable agreement with some previous estimates.
