During the period of enlightenment under the government of Maria There
sia and Joseph IInd, the basics for highschool education for veterinar
ians in Middle Europe with Vienna as centre were constituted. The coop
eration with the departments of veterinary medicine in Olmoc and espec
ially in Prague contributed a lot to the high educational level and sp
ecialist knowledge of veterinarians in the Czechoslovakian countries.
After Czechoslovakia was founded in 1918 a strong influence of the Vie
nnese Veterinary School on the foundation of the Veterinary School of
Brno concerning the administration (adoption of study and examination
order) as well as in personal matters and the foundation of department
