The problem of short-wave diffraction of a multimode acoustic signal a
t a rigid object is considered in the framework of the Kirchhoff physi
cal diffraction model and the radiation transfer equation for the seco
nd moment of the Green's function, taking into account the waveguiding
character of propagation and the effects of multiple scattering of so
und from a rough ocean surface. Basic formulas for the intensity and c
orrelation characteristics of the diffracted field in the far zone of
a stationary and moving scatterer are derived. Results of numerical ca
lculations for the typical conditions of a shallow sea are presented a
s obtained under the assumption that the main source of fluctuations o
f a sound signal is the wind-agitated sea.
