A brief review of methods and instruments used for automatic monitorin
g of the parameters of liquid oil products is presented, and a new aco
ustic method of measuring liquid oil product levels is proposed. The m
ethod is based on the reflection of transverse probing pulses excited
in a string from the liquid boundary. The basic acoustic aspects of th
e proposed method are considered, and the most important acoustic para
meters of the method and the conditions for its implementation are spe
cified. The possibility of using the proposed method in practice is ex
perimentally tested. The reflection coefficient is experimentally dete
rmined for various types of strings.
