Abstract
The crystal and molecular structure of 23,24-dinor-5alpha-cholan-12-on e has been determined. Rings A, B and C have a chair conformation, rin g D a half-chair conformation. All rings are trans connected. The crys tal structure of the title compound confirms the link between a differ ent kinetic behaviour during reduction of 12-oxosteroids with LiAlH4 a nd a different orientation of the pi system of the ketone functional g roup.
