High-resolution synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction is used to study
the crystal structure of the higher fullerene C-84 in the temperature
range 5-295 K. Solid C-84 (mixture of two molecular isomers, D-2(IV) a
nd D-2d(II) in the ratio 2:1, respectively) adopts a face-centered-cub
ic (fcc) structure at all temperatures (a = 15.817(4) Angstrom at 20 K
).
