S. Hassinbaer et al., UNUSUAL NEUROLOGICAL MANIFESTATIONS OF PRIMARY HUMAN-IMMUNODEFICIENCY-VIRUS INFECTION, European journal of neurology, 5(4), 1998, pp. 369-373
The nervous system may be involved during primary human immunodeficien
cy virus (HIV) infection. Recognized clinical syndromes include mening
itis, meningo-encephalitis, myelopathy, polyneuropathy and rhabdomyoly
sis. We report three patients with unusual neurological presentations
of primary HIV infection: intracranial hypertension, severe encephalop
athy characterized by personality changes and regressive behavior, and
iumbosacral radiculoneuropathy. In all, the neurological disorder had
a benign course and resolved within a few months. Awareness of the la
rge spectrum of neurological manifestations of primary HIV infection c
an enable early diagnosis and treatment. Eur J Neurol 5:369-373 (C) 19
