M. Beckmann et G. Himmel, DRIFT-WAVE STABILIZATION BY MEANS OF A SPECIFIC MAGNETIC-FIELD INHOMOGENEITY, Journal of physics. D, Applied physics, 31(14), 1998, pp. 1688-1694
The controlled deformation of magnetic field lines in a magnetized rf
ring discharge in helium is used to stabilize self-excited drift waves
driven by gradients of the plasma density and the electron temperatur
e. The observed effects of the inhomogeneity are described theoretical
ly by an extension of an existing drift wave model in terms of the low
est-order nonlinear interaction between the waves and the magnetic fie
ld inhomogeneity.
