Glass forming limits and glass transition temperatures of alkali vanad
ate glasses are reported. The glass formation, which required rapid co
oling, occurred in the range R = 0.43 - 1.50 where R is the Molar rati
o of alkali oxide to vanadium pentoxide. This range corresponds closel
y to a eutectic common in each of the phase diagrams. The stability, d
efined as the difference between the crystallisation temperature and t
he glass transition temperature, reaches a maximum near this common eu
tectic point.
