P. Cipriani et al., ANTIBIOTICS AT SUB-INHIBITORY CONCENTRATIONS AND VIRULENCE FACTORS OFPSEUDOMONAS-AERUGINOSA, The New microbiologica, 21(3), 1998, pp. 285-288
The difficulty of istituting an efficacious therapy against Pseudomona
s aeruginosa infections is principally due to the microorganism's anti
biotic resistance. The aim of our study was to evaluate the activity o
f four antibacterial drugs, two penems and two quinolones, on the prod
uction of virulence factors. Our results demonstrated that the antibio
tics tested have a different behaviour depending on the P. aeruginosa
phenotype. Therefore it would be advisable to choose the drug on the b
asis of the isolated strain phenotype.
