Photoluminescence spectra of Ca(Mg)O : Eu, Sm oxides of alkaline-earth
metals doped with ions of rare-earth elements, were studied. Photolum
inescence stimulated in these materials at room temperature with IR ra
diation was observed for the first time. The stimulated photoluminesce
nce in Ca(Mg)O : Eu, Sm was studied for various impurity concentration
s. The samples were preliminarily exposed to UV radiation at wavelengt
hs of 250 and 488 nm. A physical model of the mechanism of photolumine
scence and stimulated photoluminescence in the materials under study i
s proposed. It is shown that alkali-earth oxides doped with rare-earth
ions can be used for repeated optical data recording.
