Relations between polarization characteristics of different plane wave
s induced in a homogeneous anisotropic layer (in the general case, an
absorbing layer) with plane-parallel boundaries by a plane monochromat
ic wave incident on it at an arbitrary angle (normal or oblique incide
nce) are derived. These relations considerably simplify from the mathe
matical point of view the solution of problems on propagation of light
in layered anisotropic media and problems on transmission and reflect
ion of light at interfaces of anisotropic media.
