Advantages and disadvantages of different methods for the elemental an
alysis of organic materials (petroleum and petrochemical products, org
anometallic and high-molecular compounds, medicines, etc.) are conside
red on the basis of the data reported in the literature. The high effi
ciency of X-ray spectrometry is demonstrated. The sources of random an
d systematic errors in the analysis of the above materials by X-ray sp
ectrometry are discussed, and techniques for their elimination are out
lined. Particular attention is given to methods for sample preparation
and to techniques for constructing calibration plots. The performance
characteristics of X-ray spectrometric procedures (precision and accu
racy of the results of analysis and detection limits) are presented.
