It is shown that stability constants for metal complexes of humic subs
tances can be determined by ultrafiltration combined with the fraction
ation of the test sample. The stability constants for zinc complexes o
f humic substances are determined for three fractions of two samples o
f natural-water humic substances. It is demonstrated that most stable
metal complexes are formed by humic substances contained in the fracti
on retained by a membrane with a nominal molecular mass of 10(5) The c
alculated overall stability constants agree with the data reported in
the literature.
