Information on molecular dynamics of the nematic liquid crystal 4-n-pe
ntyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) doped with the dyes DMANS and DMANAB has b
een obtained by luminescence and Raman measurements. Temperature depen
dences of reorientational correlation times are not the same for diffe
rent molecular motions. Mechanisms responsible for the marked deviatio
n of the time values obtained by different optical methods are discuss
ed.
