Photoconversion of 2,5-diphenyloxazole (PPO) and 2-(4-pyridyl)-5-pheny
loxazole (4PyPO) was investigated under the conditions of laser genera
tion by excitation with a XeCl laser. Absolute quantum yields of the P
PO and 4PyPO photoconversion in different solvents and relative quantu
m yields of final photoproducts were determined. The results of quantu
m-chemical investigations of the oxazole ring opening photoreaction an
d the experimental data made it possible to confirm the mechanism of P
PO photodissociation and to suggest the mechanism of the 4PyPO photoco
nversion.
