Js. Brook et al., PSYCHOSOCIAL RISK-FACTORS FOR HIV TRANSMISSION IN MALE DRUG-ABUSERS, Genetic, social, and general psychology monographs, 119(3), 1993, pp. 369
We studied the psychosocial risk factors associated with Black, Hispan
ic, and White (N = 257) male intravenous drug abusers' needle-sharing
behavior with familiar individuals and with strangers. Approximately h
alf the subjects were HIV+. The findings supported a mediational model
in that risk factors in the family domain were associated with peer a
nd personality risk factors conducive to needle sharing that, in tum,
were related to needle-sharing behavior.
