Sp. Arya et M. Mahajan, A METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF ASCORBIC-ACID USING THE IRON(II)-PYRIDINE-DIMETHYLGLYOXIME COMPLEX, Annali di chimica, 88(5-6), 1998, pp. 429-436
A simple and rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of
ascorbic acid is proposed. Ascorbic acid reduces iron (III) to iron (I
I) which forms a red colored complex with dimethylglyoxime in the pres
ence of pyridine. The absorbance of the resulting solution is measured
at 514 nm and a linear relationship between absorbance and concentrat
ion of ascorbic acid is observed up to 14 mu g ml(-1). Studies on the
interference of substances usually associated with ascorbic acid have
been carried out and the applicability of the method has been tested b
y analysing pharmaceutical preparations of vitamin C.
