S. Biri et J. Vamosi, BEAM DEVELOPMENT AT THE NEW 14 GHZ ELECTRON-CYCLOTRON-RESONANCE ION-SOURCE OF ATOMKI, Review of scientific instruments, 69(2), 1998, pp. 646-648
The first highly charged heavy ion beams in Hungary were obtained in O
ctober 1996. The new 14.5 GHz electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion s
ource of ATOMKI produced remarkable intensity of multiply charged ion
beams yet at the first experiments (e.g., charge states up to 12+ were
detected for argon) just with ''basic'' ECR ion source configuration.
Since then some further developments were carried out. A negatively b
iased electrode remarkably increased the intensity of the highly charg
ed ions. The testing of the seven-elements electrostatic extraction sy
stem is continued successfully. Experimental study was done in order t
o find the optimal position of the mirror peaks. Visual studies and sp
ectroscopic measurements of the visible light coming from the ECR plas
ma, were carried out. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
