Rg. Kralich et Pj. Boyce, TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR CONCURRENT OCULAR DISEASE PRESENTING WITH POSTERIOR LENTICONUS, Optometry and vision science, 75(7), 1998, pp. 468-475
Posterior lenticonus is a protrusion of the posterior capsule and cort
ex into the vitreous. The etiology is widely debated because of the ra
re nature of the condition. Lenticonus can present with concurrent ocu
lar conditions, which can disrupt normal visual development. Currently
, the only treatment option for posterior lenticonus is lensectomy, wh
ich may still have a reduced chance of visual success secondary to the
associated disease. Although strabismus and amblyopia are commonly as
sociated, keratoconus has not previously been reported with unilateral
posterior lenticonus. Considering treatment of the associated conditi
on may allow the patient to delay or forego surgical intervention.
