The tricritical points on the nearest neighbour interaction mixed spin
-1/2 and spin-1 transverse Ising system with a crystal field are inves
tigated within the framework of the effective field theory (EFT) with
correlations. Particular emphasis is given to the square lattice for w
hich phase diagrams are obtained. If the transverse field varies in ce
rtain ranges, we find that tricritical points are obtained for the pre
sent system. The effect of the transverse field on the behaviour of th
e tricritical points is discussed in this paper.
