Cj. Patterson et al., FAMILIES OF THE LESBIAN BABY BOOM - CHILDRENS CONTACT WITH GRANDPARENTS AND OTHER ADULTS, American journal of orthopsychiatry, 68(3), 1998, pp. 390-399
In an exploratory study of 37 lesbian-mother families, the frequency o
f children's contact with adults in their extended family and friendsh
ip networks was found to counter stereotypes of such children as isola
ted from parents 'families of origin. Children were more likely to hav
e regular contact with relatives of the biological than nonbiological
mother. Mother rated those in regular contact with grandparents as hav
ing fewer behavior problems, and those in more regular contact with un
related adults rated themselves more positively on general well-being.
