Abstract
The tectonic analysis of brittle structures in the plateaux of the ext ernal Jura enabled us to reconstruct the successive palaeostress field s since the late Mesozoic. In particular, an E-W to NW-SE extension, p robably related to the major Oligocene rifting event, was clearly iden tified. The heterogeneous distribution of related sigma3 orientations confirms the model of stress perturbations associated with the Oligoce ne knematics of the Rhine-Saone Transform Zone.
