A case of secondary hypoadrenocorticism in a young dog is described. T
he clinical diagnosis was confirmed through hormone analysis: low basa
l plasma cortisol levels could be stimulated by ACTH to levels within
the normal range. The course of the disease was followed over a period
of nine months, after which the animal was euthanized. The post morte
m histopathological findings reveal underdevelopment of the anterior l
obe of the pituitary gland with only one sort of eosinophilic cells, p
resence of a pituitary cyst, and advanced adrenocortical atrophy.
