R. Fathallah et al., PREDICTION OF PLASTIC-DEFORMATION AND RESIDUAL-STRESSES INDUCED IN METALLIC PARTS BY SHOT PEENING, Materials science and technology, 14(7), 1998, pp. 631-639
A model has been developed by Guechichi et at. and improved by Khabou
et nl. to predict residual stresses and plastic deformation induced by
shot peening in metallic parts. The major controlling factors were ta
ken into account. The effect of the tangential friction between the sh
ot and the treated material, the shot hardness to material hardness ra
tio and the angle of impingement were not taken into account. This pap
er presents an ex-tension of this model by taking into account the eff
ect of friction, the angle of impingement, and the hardness ratio. The
material is characterised by using the model of Khabou et al. as exte
nded by Hamdane in the case of triaxial loading. Application on a plat
e made of Udimet 720 shows a good agreement with the residual stresses
obtained by X-ray diffraction analysis. Calculations made using diffe
rent coefficients of friction and angles of impingement show a good co
rrelation with the experimental data available in the literature. MST/
