Abstract
Twenty-six strains belonging to 19 species of aquatic hyphomycetes iso lated from freshwater streams in Spain were tested for antimicrobial a ctivities after cultivation on 24 different solid media. Fifteen of th ese cultures produced antibacterial activities and 8 produced antifung al activities in at least one medium. The most succesful media were th ose with a low nitrogen/carbon ratio. The ecological and biotechnologi cal implications of these results are discussed.
