G. Platas et al., SCREENING OF ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES BY AQUATIC HYPHOMYCETES CULTIVATED ON VARIOUS NUTRIENT SOURCES, Cryptogamie. Mycologie, 19(1-2), 1998, pp. 33-43
Twenty-six strains belonging to 19 species of aquatic hyphomycetes iso
lated from freshwater streams in Spain were tested for antimicrobial a
ctivities after cultivation on 24 different solid media. Fifteen of th
ese cultures produced antibacterial activities and 8 produced antifung
al activities in at least one medium. The most succesful media were th
ose with a low nitrogen/carbon ratio. The ecological and biotechnologi
cal implications of these results are discussed.
